It also includes his correspondence with relatives who have moved to America some years before.The story includes a wide variety of adventures in Rome including meeting new friends, drinking espresso, young romance, growing up and occasional hardships.
The book is a translation from Italian and is easy to read. A number of traditional stories are told in the book. You probably know about the goose that laid the golden egg, but he has a few others that I'd never heard of. There is also some interesting background as to what life was like in Verbicaro (a small town in Calabria) before young people moved to Rome and America to find work and for economic reasons.
This is a optimistic book about learning and working to adapt to life and friends in a new city. If you can work hard you can achieve your goals.
